Once the Menu page has been created, we move on to adding categories to the menu card. Categories and sub-categories are of prime importance as the template renders each page of the menu card based on a category. The following example would explain how the menu card works on this theme.
Let us assume that your restaurant caters to the connoisseurs who indulge in Chicken, Lamb and Seafood. You might have starters, soups and main course for each of these. Desserts, I assume, would be a separate category in your restaurant unless, of course, you are presenting a roasted chicken stuffed with gelato! Here’s how your category structure should look like. (Sub-categories are shown through bullet points to the main category).

Chicken

Lamb
- Starters
- Soups

Desserts
This structure would ensure that Seafood, Chicken, Lamb and Desserts would appear on separate pages with each page having dishes from the respective sub-categories. You can assign separate pages to your starters, soups, etc. by stating them as the main categories and giving a pleasant name to the sub-category. For reference, explore the menu that I have created here.
Creating Menu – Main Categories
1. Navigate to Bordeaux Menu on the left hand side navigation and click on Bordeaux Menu Categories.
2. Mention the main category name – Seafood, for example – and let the Parent drop-down have None selected.
3. Give a brief description about this category and click on Add New Category.
Creating Menu – Sub-Categories
1. Continuing from the above section, mention the name for the sub-category – Soups, for example – and in the Parent drop-down, select the main category that soups are applicable to. Example: You can select Seafood.
2. Give a brief description about this sub-category and click on Add New Category.
3. Continue adding the categories and sub-categories, according to your menu.
Re-ordering Menu Categories
1. Navigate to Bordeaux Menu on the left hand side navigation and click on Bordeaux Menu Categories.
2. Click on Bordeaux Listing Category Order.
3. Drag and re-order the category listings according to your requirements.
4. Click on Order sub-categories to perform a similar operation on sub-categories for each category.
5. Click Save Changes.
6. You are all set to add dishes to your menu now.
