Hardly had she recovered from the attempted murder by a swarm of unruly and allegedly opposition-induced bees, that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister had to deal with another stumbling block to her supremacy over the most populous state of the Union of India. The stumbling block is development.
The word in political circles and those inside the Ambedkar Park at Lucknow is that after surviving the sting, Mayawati was apprised of the fact that honey bees were probably having a party at one of the selected high rises in the city. Taking cognizance of the grave threat that the high rises pose, Mayawati is learnt to have issued a directive to stall all development work in the state.
Although, there is considerable development taking place in the state in terms of crime and lawlessness, Mayawati has concentrated her energy towards economic development, as it has been analysed as the root cause for the bee attack. Behenji was quoted as saying, ‘The rampant economic development in the state is responsible for giving the opposition a chance to plan a sting attack on me. I will not tolerate this. We will take concrete measures to address this menace of economic development at the earliest. We have been working towards containing this menace for quite some time, but now it has reached unbearable heights. This step is being taken in interest of the Dalits who brought me to power and had to forgo their only meal to present the multi-million rupee garland to me.‘
It has to be seen what the DIG level inquiry finds out about the bee attack. The state administration is investigating the grave issue and has consulted scientists on analysing behaviour of honey bees. We have been told by an insider that the bees are attracted to the smell of laundered Rs. 1000 notes. But that, of course, is a figment of imagination of this insider who might have links to the opposition.
We are witnessing an Armageddon of sorts – a lone crusader and messiah – trying to ward off whining and stinging bees and hold on to the seat of power that she deserves.
